We know Michael Nyman’s soundtracks for The Piano, Gattaca, collaborations with Damon Alban (Blur, Gorillaz) and his long collaboration with director Peter Greenaway. But we should not forget he is also the writer of the groundbreaking Experimental Music: Cage and Beyond, the journalist/critic who first applied the word “minimalist” to music and that he has composed seven operas. Lately, Nyman has been focusing on EXPERIMENTAL FILMMAKING AND MUSIC. Reclusive and mysterious, we were thrilled that Nyman sat down to talk openly about his career and life.
